On the morning of Friday, June 5, 2026, our beloved Martha Capers heard and received the voice of her Creator. She transitioned while impatient at MUSC, Charleston, South Carolina. Born August 19, 1941, in the rural area of Varnville, Hampton County, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Reverend Harry Capers, Sr. and Mrs. Lizzie Mae Capers. Martha was the fifth of eleven siblings, seven of which preceded her in death.
Martha was a graduate of the former North District Training School, Varnville, South Carolina. Her Christian education by means of church membership was received from Antioch Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, Varnville, South Carolina.
Upon graduation from North District Training School, Martha relocated to Miami, Florida at the age of eighteen. While living in Miami, Dade County Pharmaceuticals employed Martha. During this period, she also became a Certified Nursing Assistant. She resided there for over thirty-five years, thereafter, returning to Varnville, South Carolina to care for her elderly parents. Her quest for and knowledge of medical services led her into private duty services as a nursing assistant. Lastly, she was employed as a driver for the Hampton County Palmetto Development Center of Varnville, South Carolina.
Upon retirement, Martha attended and enjoyed countless hours of laughter and joy at the Hampton County Senior Citizens Center where she attended daily.
To cherish her memories are her loving and devoted nephew of the home, Elder Curtis Capers; One sister and devoted caregiver, Evangelist Elizabeth Smith of Varnville, South Carolina; Two devoted brothers: Mr. James Capers of Varnville, South Carolina and Mr. Eli (Minnie Lee) Capers of Hephzibah, Georgia; Her loving god-son, Chase Deaunte Woods of Varnville, South Carolina; Her loving god-children: Tiffany Mole, Ashley Inabinett, Delric Inabinette, Jr. Christopher Woods, Triston Inabinette, Kaleb Green, Carter Jackson, Desmond Jackson, Zori Mole, and Khalani Peeples. A host of loving caregivers which includes three devoted nieces: Ms. Lisa Smith, Ms. Jaqueline Pinckney, Ms. Cynthia Collins, Ms. Mary Grant, Evang. Sherelle Gordon, Mrs. Sylvia Joyner, Minister Mary Ann McNeil, Ms. Marguerite McClay, Ms. Geroldine Odom, Ms. Chelsea Martinez, and Ms. Ashley Inabinette; Two cherished friends: Mrs. Daisy Lawton of Varnville, South Carolina and Mr. Levie McCoy of Lake City, Florida; Eighteen loving nieces; Eleven loving nephews; A host of loving cousins, neighbors, and friends.
