On July 1, 1948, in Manhattan, New York, Mrs. Barbara Ann McCutchen-Grant was born to the late John & Sarah Edna McCutchen. Biding this earthly life farewell, she entered peaceful rest on Tuesday, June23, 2026 at Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), Charleston, South Carolina.
Barbara began her education journey in the public schools of Manhattan, New York. She furthered her education, earning an associate degree. This certification was an avenue for employment as a director at a care facility. Throughout her life, Barbara was employed in various capacities; however, her most love assignment was cooking and taking care of foster children.
She acknowledged Christ and became a member of Antioch Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, Varnville, South Carolina and 1St Thankful, Chapter #103, Order of Eastern Star (OES), Estill, South Carolina.
Barbara was joined in Holy Matrimony to Elder Lonnie Lee Grant.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were (5) brothers and (1) son, Riley Wright, III.
To remember her love and cherish those memories are: Her husband, Elder Lonnie Lee Grant of the home; Six daughters: Kim E. Hodnett, Cynthia (Alan) Shular, Jennifer E. Grant, Cynthia E. Grant, and Nicole M. Grant all of Varnville, South Carolina and Renee (Kevin) Anderson of Yemassee, South Carolina; (6) Sons: Colvin D. McCutchen of New York, John (Stacey) McCutchen of Longview, Texas, Jamison L. Hodnett of Smoaks, South Carolina, Terrance (Vanessa) Grant and Lonnie (Lavern) Grant, all of Varnville, South Carolina, and Jason Grant of Bamberg, South Carolina; (1) Sister, Sabreen (aka Karen) Muhamad (Abdullah Warith) of Inkster, Michigan; (1) Aunt, Dell Barr of Kingstree, South Carolina; (6) Sisters-in-law: Della Grant, Mary Grant, Merdell Grant, Melissa (Tim) Gardner, Junier Mae (Andrew) Dobson, and Tina Grant, all of Varnville, South Carolina; (2) Brothers-in-law: Mike (Brenda) Grant of Charleston, South Carolina, and Lee (Shawntae) Grant of Varnville, South Carolina; She also leaves precious memories to a host of foster children; grandchildren (which includes special grands: Chenayah, Jamiya, J’Slynn, Janur, and Tario) ; great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins and many loving friends.
