Reflecting Upon His Life
Mr. Jeroy Jamison Sr., affectionately known by family and friends as “Babe”, entered eternal rest on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at HCA Healthcare Colleton Hospital, Walterboro, South Carolina.
Born on December 3, 1947, in Islandton, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Mannie Jamison Sr. and Clara Fennell Jamison. At an early age, he joined Deep Creek Baptist Church, Islandton, South Carolina where he developed a foundation of faith that remained with him throughout his life. He was educated in the Colleton County public school system. In December of 1979, he married Carolyn Jamison.
Jeroy was a hardworking man whose hands and talents helped build homes, businesses, and lasting memories throughout South Carolina. He worked for many years in construction and became known as a true jack of all trades. Gifted in carpentry, cabinetry, electrical work, and homebuilding, he used his talents to serve countless people in his community. Whether building houses from the ground up or crafting beautiful cabinetry, his work spoke for itself.
In addition to construction, Jeroy had a passion for farming and entrepreneurship. He planted and harvested crops including soybeans, butter beans, corn, turnips/collards, and other various produces. Through his farming ventures, he employed workers during harvest seasons and took pride in providing for his family and community. He later established “Papa’s Peanuts,” a beloved local business where customers eagerly anticipated his yearly peanut stand. Through this business, he became known by many as “The Peanut Man.”
Jeroy never met a stranger. Known for his sense of humor and lively personality, he was truly a comedian at heart who loved making people laugh. He had a special gift for giving everyone a nickname, and his presence brought warmth, joy, and conversation wherever he went. He was deeply loved by family, friends, and neighbors alike.
Above all, Jeroy loved his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn Jamison; his brother, Mannie Jamison Jr.; his sister, Audrey Holmes; and his daughters: Jada Jamison and Sharon Jamison.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories his children: Angela Jamison, of the home, Katina Taylor of Varnville, SC , Kimberly Taylor of Furman, SC , Keith Taylor of Charlotte, NC, Tiphany Jamison-Howell (Ken) of Yemassee, SC, Jeroy Jamison, Jr. of Estill, SC, and Chief Samuel Jamison of Norfolk,Virginia.
He also leaves to cherish his memory 26 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Sally Jamison and Mableleen Johnson, both of Islandton, SC; one brother, Jerome Jamison (Linda) of Islandton, SC; five sisters-in-law: Dorothy Jamison of Columbia, SC, Debra Scott (Michael), Christine James, and Debra Ann Heyward all of Varnville, SC, and Belle Wright (Anthony) of Garland, Texas; four brothers-in-law: Daniel Heyward, Isaac Heyward, and Nathaniel Heyward all of Varnville, SC, and Harry Lee Heyward (Sheena) of Marietta, Georgia; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.
The legacy of Jeroy “Babe” Jamison Sr. will live on through the many lives he touched with his hard work, generosity, humor, and craftsmanship.
