A Life Well Lived & A Legacy of Love

Mother Martha Capers was born on August 6, 1924, in Hampton County, South Carolina to the late Luther and Corrie Hamilton.

She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at a young age and became a baptized member of Antioch Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, Varnville, South Carolina.  Her devotion to the congregation was evident as she served faithfully on the Senior Choir for many years.

Mother Capers was a disciplined hard worker. She performed dutifully the tasks given to her stewardship, first as a housekeeper. Thereafter she became employed as a kitchen aide at Varnville Elementary until retirement. Always smiling and very seldom complaining, she exhibited the character of a virtuous woman.

She departed this earthly realm and gained her wings on Friday evening, September 11, 2026, at her residence in the Camp Branch Community of Varnville, South Carolina.

Mother Capers was preceded in death by her parents: Luther and Corrie Hamilton; Her husband, Sam Capers, Sr., (3) Children; (5) Grandchildren; and (5) Siblings.

Loving memories will forever be cherished by her children: Margaret (Reverend Israel) Hughee of the Camp Branch Community of Varnville, South Carolina, Sam, Jr. (Ruthie) Capers of Point South, South Carolina, Gloria Parish of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and Gail Smart of the home; (2) Bonus children: Wrenoski and Andre Williams; (18) Grandchildren; (52) Great grandchildren; and (22) Great great grandchildren; (1) Brother, Mr. Marion (Lavania) Hamilton of Sylvania, Georgia; A son-in-law, Toby Smart of Nixville, South Carolina; (1) Sister-in-law, Edna Hamilton of Varnville, South Carolina; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
