Varnville, South Carolina- Funeral service for Mr. Clarence “Coffee” Newton, 68, of 215 King Circle was held Saturday, April 14, 2012, 1:00 P.M. at Good Hope Baptist Church, Estill, South Carolina. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Washington's Funeral Home of Hampton was entrusted with arrangements.
On Tuesday night, April 10, 2012, God called our beloved Clarence Newton from earth’s toils to reward. Born April 4, 1944 in Estill, Hampton County, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Herbert Newton, Sr. and Cattie Jones Newton.
At an early age, “Clarence” confessed Christ as Savior and became a baptized member of Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Estill, South Carolina.
“Coffee” as he is affectionately called, was educated in the public schools of Hampton County, South Carolina. He was a retired truck driver for J. E. Wayman, Estill, South Carolina and most recently Southern Soya, Estill, South Carolina.
Clarence Newton had an avid love for landscaping, being a “tree shade” mechanic and a handy man. He was united in marriage to the former Ms. Vivian Louise Williams on January 20, 1972.
In addition to his parents, Clarence was predeceased by one brother, Herbert Newton, Jr.
To mourn his home going and cherish his memories are his loving wife, Mrs. Vivian Newton of the home; His children: Shirl (Oscar) Mole of Charleston, South Carolina, Anthony (Brandi) Williams of Denver, Colorado, Letitia (Bernard) Williams, Cordelia Newton, and Jennifer Newton, all of Varnville, South Carolina and Shanta (Dwayne) Stevenson of Talboro, South Carolina; (13) Grandchildren; (1) Great grandchild, Sa’Mirah Nevaeh Warner; (2) Sisters: Cattie Lee (John) Fields of Lena, South Carolina and Bernice (Samuel) Green of Yemassee, South Carolina; (1) Step-sister, Verna (Clarence) Cuyler; (2) Brothers: Kenyon (Mary) Newton of Estill, South Carolina and Joerome Newton of Ridgeland, South Carolina; (1) Aunt, Alene Newton of Estill, South Carolina; Sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Charles (Floria) Williams, Johnnie Mae Green, Brenda (Bobby) Grant, Danny Joe Green, Diane Williams, Mazie Frazier, Ulysee Green, Sr. and Deloris Newton, all of Varnville, South Carolina; His step mother, Pearlie Mae Newton of Estill South Carolina; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and caring friends, which includes two special friends: James Lee Smith of Varnville, South Carolina and Mike Avant of Hampton, South Carolina.
