Ms. Mary Louise Bates
Blackville, South Carolina  -  Celebration of Life in Loving Memory of Ms.Mary Louise Bates, 43, of 9 Lodge Circle will be held Sunday, January 15, 2012, 2:30 P.M. at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Olar, South Carolina.  Pastor Harold Shepherd will be officiating.  Interment will take place in the Blackville Cemetery of Blackville, South Carolina.

Friends may visit the family Saturday evening, January 14, 2012 from 6-8:00 P.M. at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Blackville, South Carolina or at the residence in Blackville.

Mary Bates, affectionately known by her love ones as “Louise” and “Doon”, was born in Blackville, South Carolina on November 6, 1968, to Clary Ella and Charles Odom Sr.

Early in life, she joined the Mount Zion Baptist Church, Lees South Carolina. She later moved by letter to Tabernacle Baptist Church, Blackville, South Carolina and subsequently to Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Olar, South Carolina, where she was a member until her death.

On Tuesday, January 10, 2012, Mary Louise Bates entered into peaceful rest at the Regional Medical Center of Orangeburg, South Carolina.

“Louise” graduated from Blackville-Hilda High School, Blackville, South Carolina. Upon graduation, she worked as a Dryer Feeder for many years at Talley Corbett Company of Springfield, South Carolina. She was later employed by Lifetime Doors Inc. of Denmark, South Carolina, where she remained until the decline of her health.

“Louise” enjoyed being with her family and friends, helping the elderly and going to the flea markets.

She will always be fondly remembered for her pleasant personality, shy smile, jovial laugh and for always unselfishly giving back to her church, community and to all of those who were blessed to know her.

Those left to cherish her memories are: Her parents: Clary Ella and Charles Odom Sr. of Blackville, South Carolina; A very special friend, Henry Wroten of Blackville, South Carolina; (2) sisters: Margie Ann Lee (Lee Edward) and Willie Mae Smalls (Robert), all of Blackville, South Carolina; (1) Adopted sister, Tonyelle Harrison of Orangeburg, South Carolina; (1) Brother, Charles Odom Jr. of Blackville, South Carolina; (1) Adopted brother, Corterra Woodley of Barnwell, South Carolina; Her god-mother, Mary Louise Harley of New York, NY; (9) Aunts: Hattie, Remell and Annie Bell Harley, all of Blackville, South Carolina, Peggie White of Blackville, South Carolina, Dorothy Ray (Gene) and Ethel Mae Harley both of New York, NY, Dorothy Harley of Atlanta, Georgia, Annie Mae Gerrick (Willie) of Denmark, South Carolina and Hannah Singleton of Flordia; (3) Uncles: Joseph Harley, William Harley (Elouise) and Hezekiah Odom (Eldora) all of Blackville, South Carolina; (16) nieces and nephews, (3) grand nieces and a host of cousins and friends, (2) special friends: Angle Creech of Blackville, South Carolina and Eartha Lawton of Springfield, South Carolina.
